After giving the disciples a process of forgiveness Jesus adds a parable about forgiveness to emphasize that Christian forgiveness does not minimize the cost of what is forgiven, it actually counts up the cost in full. Knowing what we are forgiving is important to setting ourselves free from the bondage of a relationship debt that can never be fully repaid, but must be forgiven.
