Workers In The Vineyard
God is like a generous estate owner, who is always going out into the marketplace of the world inviting all kids of people to join Him. He finds people standing idle, without purpose or prospects and offers them a place, and then rewards them all equally with His mercy and grace. And yet, Jesus teaches us in this parable that our old selfish hearts can still try to find fault with Him. If we are not careful our hearts become suspicious that God is holding out on blessing He owes us, and He is being too merciful on others who have not measured up to the standards we feel we have achieved. Jesus tells this parable to His followers in order to expose their misunderstanding of God’s outrageous grace, and their own dangerous pride.
