Victorious Death
When Jesus went to the cross his disciples looked on in disbelief. He hadn’t escaped the Pharisees and High council like he had done so many times before. He didn’t overthrow Pilot when brought face to face with their Roman oppressor. He didn’t even defend himself against the false accusations of the court. He carried His cross to the killing field. He let Himself be nailed. He really breathed His last and was buried. But Peter tells us in just a few sentences that death was like none other in history. It was the very victory His disciples were looking for but could not see. It was a unique, vicarious, purposeful, proclaimed, and eternal victory they could never have expected.
