Sanctifying Grace

Sanctifying Grace

Both legalism and licentiousness (two wrong ways to try and live the Christian life)  have at their root the same error. Both view God as demanding and ungenerous, who requires we merit or earn His favour and grace. The legalist accepts this distorted view of God and works hard to measure up while looking down on those who won’t. The licentious reject such a God and instead want to enjoy all of God’s stuff (food, shelter, health, entertainment, prosperity) without acknowledging God Himself. What both the legalist and licentious need is a true view of God’s grace. When confronted with the radical generosity of God’s love, that is ours by grace alone… both the legalist and the licentious get the correction their heart requires, and victory in living out the Christian life is soon to follow.
