Messiah
When reading a book, the first sentence often sets the stage for everything that is to follow. In the first sentence he writes, Matthew establishes the subject of not only his gospel but the next 26 books of the New Testament to follow. Jesus is identified 4 different ways in Matthew 1:1 in order to make His identity plain. The promised Messiah who will fulfill the covenants of Abraham and David, who will save His people and establish His kingdom forever.
