Mental Illness And Depression
The cause and symptoms of depression are perhaps the most misunderstood by medical science. Even former directors of the National Institute of Mental Health publically deny the conclusions of the DSM-5 in diagnosis or treatment. And depression can be especially troubling to the Christian soul if we have misunderstood what is meant by spiritual joy. As Charles Spurgeon said “No sin is necessarily connected with sorrow of heart.” We must embrace what the scripture teaches us about Jesus, the “Man of sorrows, acquainted with grief”, who offered up “fervent cries and tears” to his Father. We need a clear theology of human suffering and God’s compassion.
