Love At The Limit

Group Discussion Starters – Love At The Limit
In the last part of chapter 1, Peter moves his teaching from our response toward God to our response toward each other.

The sermon focused on the nature of love that we are given by God. In what ways do you expect the love we have from God to be superior to our former ability to love? Do you have any examples in the bible of those differences?

Try and remember, then share a time in your own life when you needed more love, or were surprised to find more love than you could have expected on your own.

In chapter 1 Peter speaks positively about showing love to each other. In chapter 2 Peter gives a list of evil motives that oppose love. Discuss how each of the motives listed in verse 1 would make love impossible. Which one do you struggle with most?

In verse 2:2 Peter says that as we get rid of wrong motives and actions, we should at the same time “yearn for spiritual milk”… what do you think he is referring to?  His comparison to a young baby is deliberate, what is needed for a baby to grow? What is Peter saying we need?

Verse 2:3 Peter ends the section with a warning, or a clarification. Everything he has said about this supernatural love comes a condition. What is the condition? Do you qualify?
