Group Discussion Starters – 1 Peter 3:1-13
In chapter 2, Peter outlines 2 major “spheres” or areas of influence on our life and how we should respond to them. The first is government (2:13) and the second is work (2:18). Review those verses and discuss briefly the attitude Christians are to have in those areas of their life.

In chapter 3 Peter introduces a new sphere of life – the family. Read chapter 3:1-12 aloud then briefly discuss the sermon from Sunday. Was there anything in the teaching that was difficult, or you wanted to investigate further?

Moving on from family, the focus of this week small group is verse 8. What is the fourth sphere of life that Christians have added, that unbelievers do not experience? Who “all” is Peter referring to when he says “all of you”?

Consider each item in his list. Unity, sympathy, brotherly love, tender heart, and humble mind. How do they benefit the church, and protect its testimony to the world?

Verse 9 is a fairly famous verse. What are the benefits of returning good for evil? Have someone in the group explain a time when they have followed this verse and what the results were. Now think of someone that has caused harm in your life recently that you could repay with good, and bless them.

Verses 10-12
Pretty much everyone desires to love their life and see good days. Everyone is looking for good days. Consider all the ways that we try to find “the good life”, and what the media promotes as a life that can be loved. What is God’s plan for loving life and seeing good days?
