Youth Director Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Director is a full-time staff member who is responsible for providing Ministry Team leadership, care and discipleship of church youth, connecting and outreach activities for community youth, Christ centered teaching and communication.  This position involves overseeing both Jr. High and Sr. High ministries, including the ability to engage and motivate others, work with youth and leaders, and ultimately help lead youth to become authentic followers of Jesus.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Youth Director reports to the Lead Pastor for all duties related to youth ministry.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

  1. Implement the vision and values of Lakeside Church in our youth ministry as described by the Elders and Lead Pastor.
    1. Lead and support the Youth Ministry Team by holding regular meetings, communicating vision, values, and program elements, providing the required materials and training they require to minister to the church and community youth.
    2. Develop and implement strategies to reach and disciple youth Jr. High and Sr. High students and their families in our community and share the Gospel with them.
    3. Provide leadership in discipling and mentoring youth through various means.
    4. Develop and implement strategies to integrate youth and their families into the life, work, and worship of our church.
    5. Train and equip youth and youth leaders to effectively minister to and disciple others.
  1. Serves as a spiritual role model. (Lives out healthy church and family life by maintaining appropriate spiritual disciplines and priorities in personal, family, work and community life.)

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Spiritual Leadership:
    1. Prepare and facilitate effective youth ministry events that cultivate healthy inter-youth relationships and a sense of belonging to community for all youth at any stage of their faith or seeking.
    2. Include teaching and ministry service activities that equip young believers in their faith, bible literacy, prayer, and the expression of spiritual gifts; and introduce seekers to the person and gospel of Jesus Christ.
    3. Develop and implement strategies to integrate newcomers into our youth ministry and into worship and life of the church family; Encourage youth to actively participate in the ministries of the church.
    4. Engage with and work closely with parents of youth to include them in the vision and goals of the ministry and with specific discipleship or mentoring needs of their child in collaboration with the Youth Ministry Team members.
    5. Train and lead youth on how to be future faith-filled leaders and create/provide programming to facilitate spiritual growth
    6. Willing to lead short-term missions, camp, or weekend retreat experiences for youth, both local and global.

 

  1. Administration:
    1. Effectively pre-plan and advertise all events (Social Media, emails, websites, etc.)
    2. Recruit and train volunteers for efficient implementation of youth programming
    3. Schedule and facilitate Youth Ministry Team meetings, involving the volunteers in the vision, goals, planning, and execution of the overall ministry, and delegating responsibilities to members of the team based on their gifting, spiritual equipping, and ability.
    4. Keep accurate and up to date records of youth contact information in Lakeside’s church Planning Center software as well as other appropriate forms of record keeping.
    5. Adhere to training and documentation required for our Social Safety Policy, incident reporting, and other policies as required.
    6. Manage annual ministry budget, properly recording and reporting expenses, utilizing resources with creativity and good stewardship to accomplish the ministry goals.
    7. Participate and contribute to staff team and meetings
    8. Foster working relationships with other Lakeside Church ministry leaders and stay aware of opportunities for how youth may align with ministry goals and could bless/be blessed by joint efforts
    9. Develop and maintain impacting relationships with various community leaders for purposes of outreach and partnerships

 

The Youth Director will participate in administrative and planning efforts, including goals to be accomplished annually and conduct other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • A servant’s heart and evident qualifications for character and ministry listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7
  • Appropriate formal training in youth ministry, as well as relevant life and ministry experience
  • Has a demonstrated passion for evangelizing, discipling, and equipping others
  • Strong management and leadership skills in educating and sharing vision, goals, insights and principles
  • Understands the current culture and needs of youth and can relate by earning their respect and trust
  • A missional heart and compassion for the lost, ability to connect with and build relationships with non-church youth in the community
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills accompanied by a positive attitude with youth and families in the church
  • Effectively seeks input and ideas, empowers and delegates to others, creating a strong team dynamic
  • Teachable and open to feedback and accountability
  • Proven problem solver and effective in conflict resolution
  • Outstanding time management skills and ability to be flexible within a dynamic work schedule – hours include evenings, some Sundays, ‘unprogrammed hours’ used for planning and training, etc.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • In agreement with the Lakeside Statement of Faith and Membership Affirmation

 

COMPENSATION

  • 40 hours per week salaried position
